Examining Current Mental Health Trends in Today’s Youth



We would like to invite all staff who work with youth and families to a staff development training opportunity hosted by CCE Albany on Friday, June 5th from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. The theme of this training is “Examining Current Mental Health Trends in Today’s Youth” and will be offered virtually featuring the following speakers:

 

  • Dr. Janis Whitlock, PhD, MPH – Emerita Research Scientist with Cornell University. The title of her presentation is “Creating An Emotional Wellness Toolkit”.  Dr. Whitlock led the Cornell Research Program on Self-Injury and Recovery for over 20 years where her work shaped national conversations on adolescent mental health, self-injury and healing. She has been working to translate developmental and behavioral science into strength-based practical tools for those who work with young people.

  • Dr. Sarah Domoff, SUNY Albany professor. The title of her presentation is “Strategies to Support Youth in the Digital Age.” Dr. Domoff will be sharing her work on the impact of screen use on youth mental health.

  • Dr. Kristen Elmore, PhD, Cornell University and associates. The title of her presentation is “Cultivating Purpose in Youth.” Dr. Elmore is the Director of the Program for Research on Youth Development and Engagement (PRYDE) and is Associate Director of the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research. She will discuss the research they have been doing on helping youth find their sense of purpose.
