Do you have a Youth interested in the NYS 4-H Goat Program?

This year a NYS Goat Breeder is offering any youth that participates in the state fair by showing and/or participating in educational contest held in the NYS Fair Goat barn/Pavilion the opportunity to win a Goat kid.  Please read the description of the program below and the opportunities for youth to participate in Goat Educational contests.  Please help spread the word with potential youth!

Give-A-Kid Scholarship Program-

The purpose of the Give-A-Kid Scholarship Award is to help encourage youth participation in showing and/or to participate in educational events related to goats at the NYS Fair.

A dairy goat kid will be awarded to a youth 8 to 18 years of age who participates in showing dairy goats in either the youth or open show at the NYS Fair and/or participates in any goat related educational event during the youth week of the NYS Fair.  Youth do not need to show a goat at the fair or currently own a dairy goat to be eligible. Selection of the Give-A-Kid Scholarship Program will be done by a drawing prior to the open show.

For every event that youth participate in, they will receive one entry into the drawing.  For example, youth could receive one entry for showing, one for goat judging, and one for quiz bowl and as a result be entered in the drawing three times. This award will be given the second week of the NYS Fair.

Entries will be determined by using the registration and results for each contest.  The scholarship kid will be entered in the open show and the winning youth will have the opportunity to show that kid in the open show.

Scholarship Rules:

1.   Participate in at least one goat educational event at the NYS Fair during the youth week and/or show a dairy goat in the youth or open show at the state fair.

2. The recipient must have not received a goat from this program previously.

3.  If the youth is unable to keep the goat kid, it must be returned to the breeder to be rehomed to another NYS youth member.

4.  The youth must have their parent/guardians’ permission to receive the goat kid.

5. The youth must have a location and the means to take care of the goat kid properly.

6.  Record books are not required to be eligible for this award.

7.  If the winning youth is unable to pick up the goat kid at the state fair, arrangements will need to be arranged between the winner and the breeder of the goat kid.
