4-H Youth Emergency Preparedness Opportunity

nys4h4
Informational Webinar - Tuesday, March 28, 1-2 p.m.

The CCE 4-H program is one of thirteen states included in the latest phase of a successful youth and community preparedness program developed at Mississippi State University. The Mississippi Youth Preparedness Initiative (MyPi) is a national Extension project led by Dr. Ryan Akers, Associate Extension Professor in the School of Human Sciences at MSU. The goal is to foster emergency preparedness, civic responsibility, and leadership in teens across the nation in urban and rural areas through a comprehensive and engaging program that builds youth leadership and community preparedness for disasters. The MyPi team will travel to New York in October 2023 to provide training to 10-15 4-H volunteers and educators (location TBD) in the curriculum, preparing the leaders to work with local 4-H youth to advance the goals of the project in local communities. There is no cost to local volunteers or CCE Associations for the training or materials. Participating 4-H youth who complete the program will learn the following skills:

  • FEMA Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training

  • CPR and AED Certification

  • Active Shooter Awareness Certification and Public Health Mitigation Training

  • Specialized Technology and Career Tracks Disaster Simulation

  • Leadership and Public Speaking Skills

If this opportunity sounds interesting to you, please join the webinar on Tuesday, March 28 from 1-2 p.m. to learn more from Dr. Akers and his team.

Please reach out to me if you have any immediate questions.
