Welcome, Kandis!

Hi y’all,

 

I’m excited to share that Kandis Freer will be joining the NYS 4-H team as the STEM & Work Readiness Specialist!

 

In this role, Kandis will lead statewide efforts to cultivate comprehensive statewide 4-H STEM and work readiness initiatives that serve 4-H youth, volunteers, and professionals across all the ways we learn and grow with youth in Cornell Cooperative Extension. ​​​​​Key responsibilities include leading state youth opportunities such as the 4-H Career Explorations program and creating leadership and professional development opportunities for CCE staff and volunteers. 

 

A lifelong member of the 4-H community, Kandis began her journey as a participant in the Rensselaer County 4-H equine program and now brings more than 17 years of experience with Cornell Cooperative Extension to her statewide role, with 14 years as the STEM Program Work Team County Co-Chair. Kandis holds dual bachelor's degrees in Elementary Education and Biology, as well as a master's degree in education. She is known as a big-picture thinker and collaborative leader; Kandis brings both local and statewide perspectives to her work. Her experience in county and statewide leadership has strengthened her understanding of the broad impact of Cooperative Extension and the importance of cross-program collaboration in serving our youth and communities. At the heart of Kandis's work is a commitment to ensuring that all young people experience a sense of belonging, develop agency and confidence in their abilities, and are beyond ready for future education, careers, and life opportunities. She is equally passionate about helping build systems and supporting adults who empower youth to thrive in an ever-changing world.

 

Kandis is excited to begin this new chapter of her career, collaborate with colleagues across the state, and partner with you all in a new capacity to strengthen STEM and career readiness opportunities for New York youth.

 

Kandis will start on October 1, 2026. Please join me in congratulating Kandis and welcoming her into this role!
