National Civics Bee

ree

Colleagues,

National 4-H Council helped NYS 4-H Youth Development to enter a partnership with the National Civics Bee by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. To encourage participation in the civics bee and to learn more about how it works, I will offer an information session on Zoom on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

We welcome your 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to submit a four-paragraph essay proposing an idea for how they can improve their community. The first round will determine invitations to the regional bee and winners advance on to the state finals. If they place at the state finals, 4-H members will advance onto a national bee held in Washington, DC. The deadline for essay submissions is February 3, 2026.

Linked here you will find the National Civics Bee educator toolkit for your review, we will dig into this in the new year. New this year there are school prizes for winners in each state too!

Land Acknowledgement

Cornell University is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' (the Cayuga Nation). The Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' are members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign Nations with a historic and contemporary presence on this land. The Confederacy precedes the establishment of Cornell University, New York state, and the United States of America. We acknowledge the painful history of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' dispossession, and honor the ongoing connection of Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' people, past and present, to these lands and waters.

This land acknowledgment has been reviewed and approved by the traditional Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' leadership. Learn more
